  1. 199x
    spacer.gif

A single 1×1 pixel. Invisible, and it held every table layout together.

Table layouts, spacer.gifs and a lot of view-source.

  2. 1999
    Opens its eyes

Five by five pixels. A web-safe palette.

1999: Net-Security.org, design credited to me in Monitor magazine, today Help Net Security. Then years of free side projects, Kroativ, Znalac, HR Vijesti, learning on my own sites until the first clients came.

  3. 2004
    Flash

The pixels learn to move. Every site has an intro, every button makes a sound.

The 2000s before the incubator: freelancing for other studios and agencies, mostly under other people's names, and long nights with Flash, CSS and PHP on my own sites.

  4. 2008
    First division

Every pixel turns into a glossy Web 2.0 button.

  5. 2013
    Flat

It turns isometric. No gloss, no shadows.

From 2013: the official website of the Town of Korčula, and meteo.hr for the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service.

  6. 2019
    Vector

    Only the lines are left.

From 2019: the Croatian Air Force, the Ministry of Defence, skole.hr, European medical societies and a new wave of congress websites.

  7. 2023
    Glass

Everything got frosted, rounded and a ✨ button.

From 2021: Oromo and its BakeUp shop, the European Society of PRM, an Angular app for wine lovers, and congress sites built so clients can edit them on their own.

  8. 2026
    Jelly

The glass melted into a cube of jelly. Clear at the bottom, green on top.

Still going: over a hundred congress sites for Conventus Credo, a new medical journal, and the newest, Hitna 2027.

  • Never more than the client really needs.
  • Today a few long-term clients, no new ones.

    Net-Security.org

    today Help Net Security

Where it all starts. In July 1999 the Croatian magazine Monitor wrote about the site: made in Croatia, written in English, about 1,900 visitors a day, only a fifth of them from Croatia and a lot from .mil and .gov domains. Under design, one name. It grew up with the web, moved to a new domain, and is still online as Help Net Security. I did its latest version too.

Still here

After years of not updating this website, I finally did. Not to get more work. Just because it deserved it.

Then

  • <table> layouts
  • spacer.gif
  • Macromedia Flash
  • IE6 hacks
  • Photoshop slices
  • FTP and a 56k modem

Now

  • HTML and CSS, still by hand
  • JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular
  • PHP and WordPress, since forever
  • Divi, so clients edit their own pages
  • Python, because scripting is fun
  • WebGL jelly, with AI as a partner

Some things changed. The curiosity didn't.
